Choco Latte in Bar Harbor
When Michael Boland and his partner Cassady Pappas opened Choco-Latte in 2013, they wanted to bring a touch of southern Mexico to coastal Maine. “After spending winters in San Cristobal, we missed the warmth and personality of cafés there,” Michael says. “We realized Bar Harbor needed a place like that, and it’s thrived ever since.”
Originally envisioned as a chocolate-focused café, Choco-Latte soon grew into a welcoming space built around freshly roasted organic coffee and scratch-made food. The café sources its beans from Chiapas, roasts them locally through its sister business, Acadia Coffee Company, and serves them alongside handmade bagels, organic egg sandwiches, and warm pastries.
The pace inside is lively yet relaxed. “On busy weekends, our team makes a sandwich or drink every 45 seconds,” Michael says. “They’re incredible.” Guests agree. Choco-Latte’s quick, friendly service and consistent quality have made it a year-round favorite for locals and returning visitors alike.
Sunlight fills the café’s big windows, and the air smells faintly of coffee and fresh bagels. Multi-level seating offers space to linger, while a granite patio on Main Street gives guests a front-row view of Bar Harbor in motion. “We love seeing our regulars come back year after year,” Michael says. “They’re part of what makes this place home.”
FAMOUS FOR:
its smooth, house-roasted organic coffee, freshly made bagels from baker Emily Homer, and breakfast sandwiches made with eggs from Peggy Rockefeller Farm. At noon, the café serves tacos, a local favorite that inspired their inside joke: “We should flip the sign to Taco-Latte.”
