Curated Wares in Deer Isle

“I just wanted to create a space that has things I find really lovely,” says photographer and writer Sal Taylor Kydd, standing inside her shop, Curated Wares, on Deer Isle. “Objects that are beautiful in their own right and made with care.”

The shop feels like a physical expression of that idea. Housed in a renovated barn beside Sal’s home, it is a serene mix of art, ceramics, textiles, and wellness goods arranged with an artist’s restraint. The space is small, but every corner carries her quiet sensibility. “I don’t have something for everyone,” she says. “If I can fill the shop with things I truly love, it will attract people who love them too.”

Each item reflects her thoughtful approach to craftsmanship. The shelves feature ceramics by Megan Flynn of Lincolnville, paintings by Jenny Brillhart, and small works by Anneli Skaar. Books and natural perfumes sit beside Portuguese linens by Libeco, all chosen for their tactile beauty and harmony of color.

Visitors often remark on the atmosphere as much as the objects themselves. “Everyone who comes in says the same thing—it smells so good in here,” Sal notes. “There’s beautiful light, lavender in the air, and it feels like you’re stepping into my world.”
