Welcome to the show
Season five brings us back to the Midcoast, with conversations recorded in venues that reflect the character of this corner of Maine: Five Gables Inn in East Boothbay, the Craignair Inn in Spruce Head, and Blue Barren Distillery in Camden. The setting felt fitting for a season centered on hospitality, beauty, tradition, and the people shaping memorable experiences along the coast.
This season features Gretchen Ostherr of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens on the larger mission behind one of Maine’s most visited destinations, Virginia Shaffer of Lady Oyster on culinary tourism and the human stories behind oysters, and Bruce White of Windjammer Days on the enduring traditions that define Boothbay Harbor. You’ll also hear from Greg Soutiea of Craignair Inn on thoughtful hospitality and community-centered growth, Nick Krunkkala of Oysterhead Pizza on building one of the Midcoast’s most distinctive food spots, and Ryan Edwards and Matt Partridge of Five Gables Inn on guest experience, small-business growth, and the evolving role of innkeeping in Maine.
Together, these conversations reveal a region where hospitality is both art and infrastructure, where food and lodging are shaped by local values, and where some of Maine’s most memorable places are being reimagined by people deeply invested in community. Season five offers a closer look at the businesses, traditions, and personalities that make this stretch of coast feel both timeless and newly alive.
