From Backyard Picnics to Coastal Elopements
When Tabitha Brown first began thinking about Luxury Picnics Acadia, the world looked very different.
It was the height of COVID. Tabitha was a new mom, stuck at home like everyone else, and searching for a creative outlet.
“We couldn't go anywhere. We couldn't go out to eat. We couldn't see our friends,” she says.
Outdoor picnics felt like a simple way for people to reconnect and celebrate milestones when so many normal routines had been put on hold. Five years later, that idea has grown into Luxury Picnics Acadia, a business specializing in luxury picnics, proposals, and coastal elopements throughout Downeast Maine.
Before launching, Tabitha spent months refining the experience.
“I wanted to make sure everything felt polished before I launched,” she says. “As a consumer myself, I know good photography matters.”
She spent six to nine months testing setups with friends, building relationships with photographers, and making sure every detail felt polished before introducing the business to the public.
At the beginning, Tabitha imagined picnics would be the heart of the business.
“I never thought elopements would be the niche I ended up with when I first started,” she says. “Life has a way of taking you in directions you don't expect.”
Today, Luxury Picnics Acadia helps couples celebrate proposals, anniversaries, micro weddings, and elopements. Tabitha has brought experiences to Bar Harbor, Millbridge, vacation rentals, inns, and private venues throughout the region.
Because no two clients are alike, neither are the experiences she plans. Some couples want a mountain backdrop. Others prefer the ocean at sunset. Tabitha even keeps a close eye on Maine's tides to help visitors choose the right location and timing.
Asked what she enjoys most about running the business, Tabitha doesn't mention the picnics.
“Getting to know different business owners and building relationships with people I wouldn't have otherwise,” she says.
