When Mike and Lindsey started dating, weekend trips to tiny cabins and glamping retreats in New Hampshire became their favorite escape from life in Boston. Both worked in finance, but they kept returning to an idea: someday, they'd create a place of their own.
During the pandemic, they began looking for property outside the city. They considered Vermont before discovering 11 wooded acres in Raymond, Maine, on Zillow. The location offered what they wanted: access to the outdoors, proximity to Portland, and Sebago Lake just minutes away.
They purchased the property and spent the next several years turning their plans into reality, managing much of the construction process themselves.
"We effectively GC'd the whole thing ourselves, which turned out to be a huge amount of work," Mike recalls.
In July 2026, they welcomed their first guests to Prana Nordic, a collection of three Scandinavian-inspired cabins designed for year-round stays.
The name reflects the couple's interests. Prana refers to the energy of life itself, while Nordic represents the Scandinavian design and spa traditions that shaped the property.
"We chose Prana Nordic because it reflects what we believe in," Lindsey explains. "Both represent our love for nature and the importance of wellness."
Mike grew up north of Montreal, where Nordic spas are a familiar part of everyday life. He wanted to bring some of that experience to Maine, but on a smaller, more private scale.
Each cabin has its own sauna, outdoor shower, and deck. One also features a hot tub and cold plunge. The cabins are spaced apart to give guests privacy, with the surrounding woods providing a natural separation.
"We were trying to make sure this didn't feel like a campground," Mike says. "We didn't want it to be too crowded."
Lindsey offers Ayurvedic treatments specializing in Marma therapy and reflexology. Guests can book treatments in the Sattva treatment studio or, weather permitting, on their private cabin decks. Yoga and other wellness experiences are also available.
The location offers plenty beyond the property. In summer, guests can explore Sebago Lake, go kayaking, or take the ferry to Frye Island. Winter brings skiing and snowboarding at Pleasant Mountain, along with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, ice fishing, and snowmobiling, all within reach of the cabins.
Even with the lake nearby and year-round outdoor adventures within easy reach, Mike and Lindsey hope guests will find time to slow down and enjoy the quiet.
"We don't have TVs. That's kind of the whole purpose."
For now, they're keeping Prana Nordic to three cabins, even though they have room to expand. After years of building, they're ready to see where this first chapter takes them.
